- Cut Off Their Food Supply
Cockroaches are attracted to the smell of foods, especially meats and starches. Given that, it’s crucial that you keep your home clean.
This means wiping up spills and cleaning up crumbs that are on the counter or floor. You also want to wash the dishes immediately after use; don’t leave dirty plates in the sink. And make sure to vacuum and mop the floor regularly.
Open bags of food in the pantry should also be sealed. We recommend storing them in airtight containers as roaches can easily wriggle into gaps in cardboard boxes.
- Use Sticky Traps and Baits
Sticky traps are glue-based traps that you can use to catch cockroaches and other pests. They consist of a piece of cardboard that’s open at both ends with an adhesive material in the center. Some may also contain scents to attract the bugs.
Another option is to set up bait stations. Unlike sticky traps, they contain food that’s mixed with insecticides. The cockroach will eat the bait and take it back to its nest where it’ll eventually die; the rest of the roach colony will then eat the dead one and that’ll create a domino effect.
For the best results, place your trap/bait station underneath the stove, sink, or refrigerator, and don’t forget to re-apply the bait every 2-3 weeks.
