1. Start with one color or pattern you really love, that inspires you and then build the rest of the room around it. 2. Settle on an odd number of patterns. Why you ask? It just seems to work better in any room, it’s been proven so just don’t question it. 3. While the patterns themselves can all be extremely different from one another, there needs to be an underlying theme. Whether it’s a color, a color intensity (ie. jewel tones, earth tones) or a theme like 1950′s wallpaper or nature. This is extremely important so that none of the patterns overpower each other. 4. You want to include patterns of various sizes and shapes so don’t just focus on big tapestries of intricate patterns.
